CL-WEBDAV is a WebDAV server written in Common Lisp. It aims to be as flexible as possible, allowing you to completely customize the way resources are handled.
Edi Weitz — Edi doesn’t sleep. This guy really does some interesting stuff! and useful.
I use PGPdisk – but Secustick sounds even better: It automatically erases itself after a set number of bad password attempts. The company makes a bunch of other impressive claims: The product was commissioned, and eventually approved, by the French intelligence service; it is used by many militaries and banks; its technology is revolutionary.
Unfortunately, the only impressive aspect of Secustick is its hubris, which was revealed when Tweakers.net completely broke its security. There’s no data self-destruct feature. The password protection can easily be bypassed. The data isn’t even encrypted. As a secure storage device, Secustick is pretty useless.
On the surface, this is just another snake-oil security story. But there’s a deeper question: Why are there so many bad security products out there?

Physicists bid farewell to reality?-Quantum mechanics just got even stranger.
it may make no sense to imagine what would happen if we had made a different measurement from the one we chose to make. “We do this all the time in daily life,” says Zeilinger — for example, imagining what would have happened if you had tried to cross the road when a truck was coming. If the world around us behaved in the same way as a quantum system, then it would be meaningless even to imagine that alternative situation, because there would be no way of defining what you mean by the road, the truck, or even you.
Nature — Quantum physics is fun!
U.K. won't let B.C.-bound author of child cancer study land
After he couldn’t get a visa to tell Americans about an alarming rise in cancer levels among Iraqi children, a renowned Iraqi epidemiologist has been told he can’t fly through Britain en route to give a similar talk in Canada.
Riyadh Lafta – best known for a controversial study in the respected medical journal The Lancet that estimated Iraq’s war dead at more than half a million – said in an e-mail to his U.S. research colleagues that he had two choices: Fly to England without the transit visa, or turn around and go home.

On GC and finalizers in Ruby, corrected weak hash table implementations
You can find corrected versions of the SimpleWeakHash and WeakHash classes (two weak hash tables with slightly different semantics) below, but I’ll first expand on why GC and object finalization can be fairly distant in time.
Mauricio Fernandez, eigenclass — Object finalisers are not the same as destructors. It also doesn’t help when texts say finalisers are run when an object is garbage collected, while, in practice, what is often done is that finalisers are run after an object is collected.
Sphinx - Free open-source SQL full-text search engine
Sphinx is a full-text search engine, distributed under GPL version 2. Commercial license is also available for embedded use.
Generally, it’s a standalone search engine, meant to provide fast, size-efficient and relevant fulltext search functions to other applications. Sphinx was specially designed to integrate well with SQL databases and scripting languages. Currently built-in data sources support fetching data either via direct connection to MySQL, or from an XML pipe.
This look quite interesting.
So, Joe Cheng of Microsoft, on the Live team and an impressive guy, looked me in the eye and said “When can I ship an APP client and be safe?” Which is a really hard question and 100% totally fair. I can’t make any promises, but what I said was “July” and I think that’s safe.
Tim Bray, ongoing — Not bad if it works out to be anywhere near July. I guess it is time to do something with Atompub.
Thunderbird 2 is availableI’ll take a look, but…
